Services

How I can help

Every case starts the same way: first I understand your situation, then I tell you what applies and what does not. No promises before I have seen your numbers.

Income tax returns — individuals

I prepare and file your return with the documentation in order, applying the deductions and exempt income you are actually entitled to.

  • Review of income, assets and withholdings
  • Deductions checked against valid supporting evidence
  • I explain the result before filing

Income tax returns — companies

The work starts before the form: reconciling the books with the tax figures and leaving the supporting file ready in case DIAN asks later.

  • Year-end accounting and tax reconciliation
  • Cross-check against withholdings and VAT filed
  • Non-deductible costs and expenses stripped out

Company formation and compliance

We set the company up properly on day one, because fixing a badly filed RUT costs more than doing it right the first time.

  • Chamber of Commerce registration
  • RUT with the right tax obligations
  • Electronic invoicing and payroll
  • Income, cost and expense projection

Statutory audit

Oversight with its own legal liability: an opinion on the financial statements and control over the company's compliance.

  • Opinion on the financial statements
  • Tax and legal compliance oversight
  • Periodic reporting to management

Tax planning

Arranging things before the year closes, not looking for exits in March. Legal savings, with the evidence gathered in time.

  • Review of the benefits that actually apply to you
  • Documentation you need to start collecting
  • Decisions worth making within the current year

Credit balance refunds

A credit balance is not refunded on its own: it has to be claimed, complete and within the deadline. I check which route applies and build the claim.

  • Verification of the balance and the deadline
  • Assembly of the claim file
  • Follow-up until the response

The question everyone asks first

Do you have to file in Colombia?

You do not file because you are an employee or a contractor. You file because you crossed the year's thresholds. Five things are checked, and crossing just one makes you liable.

The amounts are set in UVT and change every year, so you will not find a loose figure here: an outdated number would push you into the wrong decision. Send me your numbers and I will tell you.
  1. Gross assetsEverything you held at year end, before subtracting debts.
  2. Gross income for the yearEverything you received, from every source, not just salary.
  3. Credit card spendingThe yearly total, not a single month's balance.
  4. Total purchases and consumptionAll of them added up, regardless of payment method.
  5. Deposits and financial investmentsIncludes transfers between your own accounts, which is where most people are caught out.

What I handle

What lands on my desk

These are the matters I work on most often. If yours is on the list, you already know it is not the first time I have seen it.

  • Evidence for economic dependants
  • Special Tax Regime for non-profits
  • Foundations, corporations and cooperatives
  • Hybrid and electric vehicle benefits
  • Transfer pricing
  • Wealth tax
  • Electronic notices and DIAN information requests
  • Who is required to keep accounting records
  • Income reconciliation before filing
  • Electronic invoicing and payroll
  • Credit balances and refund routes
  • Withholding tax and self-withholding

How I work

Three steps, no mystery

  1. Tell me about your case

Write to me on WhatsApp or by email and tell me what you need. That first conversation to understand your situation is free.

  2. I review and tell you what applies

I look at your figures and your documents and tell you what can be done, what cannot, and what is missing. That is when you get the scope and the cost.

  3. I execute and stay with you

I prepare and file what we agreed, explain the result, and stay available for any notice that arrives about that period.

Scope

What is included and what is not

Making this clear at the start avoids misunderstandings later.

What an engagement includes
  • Review of your documents and of the information you provide
  • Calculation and preparation of the return or procedure agreed
  • A plain-language explanation of the result before filing
  • Filing with DIAN
  • Support on notices relating to the period worked on
What it does not include
  • No guaranteed tax amount or refund: that follows from your figures, not from my goodwill
  • I do not file returns with incomplete or inconsistent documentation
  • I am not answerable for inaccurate information provided to me
  • Periods or procedures outside the agreed scope are quoted separately
What I need from you

Complete information, on time. Most of the penalties I see do not come from a calculation error, but from documents that turned up late or never turned up at all.

Frequently asked

What people ask me most

If yours is not here, the assistant on this page will answer it or put you through to me.

How do I know if I am required to file?

Five thresholds are checked: gross assets, gross income, credit card spending, total purchases and consumption, and deposits and investments. Crossing just one makes you liable. The amounts are set in UVT and change every year, so they have to be checked against the specific year you are filing for.

What documents do I need?

For an individual return, the usual set: income and withholding certificates, bank and investment certificates, details of assets and debts at year end, and the supporting documents for whichever deductions you want to claim. Write to me with your case and I will send the exact list, with nothing superfluous.

Can the tax be reduced legally?

Yes, by using the benefits the law provides and documenting them properly. What most often leaves people overpaying is a deduction that did exist but could not be proven. That is what planning is for, before the year closes.

DIAN sent me an email. What do I do?

Send it to me as soon as possible. With electronic notification, the response deadline starts running from when the notice was sent to your registered email, not from the day you opened it. The clock is already running.

I want to set up a company. Where do I start?

By settling the regime and the tax obligations before registering the RUT, not after. I handle the full package: Chamber of Commerce, RUT, electronic invoicing, electronic payroll where applicable, and the income, cost and expense projection.

Do you work outside Medellín?

Yes. I am based in Medellín and work remotely with clients elsewhere in Colombia, and with Colombians abroad who still file in Colombia. The whole process can be handled at a distance.
